MOHAWK HITS A HOME RUN

Mohawk South Bend recently installed a state-of-the-art semi-automated custom paint face spray door system.

At Mohawk, we consistently look for ways to differentiate ourselves from our competition while improving our quality, productivity, and overall cost-effectiveness.  We hit a home run on this one. 

As a larger percentage of our customer needs shift toward custom-painted doors, we felt it necessary to explore new production options.

Therefore, we came up with a way to automate our loading process and fully integrate it with an overhead trolley system feeding through our paint booth.  We now have a tilt lift system that shifts our doors from a horizontal to a vertical position, and along with our vendor we have developed a gravity gripper system that then grabs the doors by their edges, requiring no screw hooks to hang the doors by.

With this continuous process flow we have seen a tremendous improvement in efficiency and our ability to serve our customers, which was the driving force behind this project.

This is one of several areas of ongoing production improvement being made at South Bend as we continue to invest in the needs of our market.
