Winter Camp

(This page has a lot of photos... so we created links)

Don’t know what to do when it’s cold outside?  Why not go winter camping!!  That is exactly what Brownie Troop 78 of Central Square did recently.  Fifteen of the troops twenty members and nine mothers packed up their winter gear and headed to Camp Near Wilderness in Parish.

The troop stayed at Stevens Lodge.  There was no running water, just a hand pump but there was electricity!!   The first day was only about 3 degrees, so the girls participated in indoor activities.  They played, composed a painting, wrote and performed a puppet play, did some bead work, and learned to sew.  The girls worked on a troop banner that they are going to use in some local parades this spring.    Saturday evening, after supper, three of the mothers went out in the cold and started a campfire (in the snow).  The girls were surprised that it could be done.  They all got on their winter gear and went out by the fire to make smores.  The hardest part was trying to eat with their mittens on!

Sunday morning after breakfast the girls went sledding.  We had some really good runs and then there were some teams who could not stay out of the snowbanks.  I don’t think we have ever laughed so hardJ After sledding the girls used colored water to paint pictures in the snow.  Everyone had a lot of fun and can’t wait to go again!!
