LEAVINGS DOLLS

The Leavings Dolls were made from "leavings", or small scraps of cloth
left from making or repairing clothing or quilts.  When adults went outside
to work - hoe corn, feed livestock, etc... a Leavings Doll kept the youngsters
content; it gave them a reason to build a stone house, a cornhusk teepee, or
a primitive log cabin.  Older folks did not believe in wasting anything. They
also fashioned dolls from cornhusks, and sticks.  Like the Leavings Doll, these
dolls, too were held together with a sting and little bit of love.  The Leavings
Doll has also been called the Poor Child's Doll and the Friend Doll.  Whatever
the name, the maker adds a touch of love to give the doll personality.  Enjoy
your Leavings Doll and with her, make a memory to cherish!!!
